About Me
I was born at home in a small South Dakota town. Home birth was definitely not a popular choice in 1981 in a state that just legalized licensed midwifery in 2017!
I remember being a little girl and stacking up the bottles of herbs as tall as I could, in my mom and grandma’s health food store. It was the place where people could buy the organic produce my grandparents grew and the raw goat’s milk from their farm. My grandpa still grows acres of organic produce and milks goats today!
After moving to Bozeman in 1988 we continued our lifestyle of eating healthy, using herbs, homeopathy, essential oils and going to a Chiropractor or Naturopathic Physician if anyone in the family needed to see a doctor.
By the time I was 13 I was very interested in midwifery. I used to read old issues of “Mothering” magazine and would hold every baby I could get my hands on! When I was 16 I was privileged to attend a homebirth and witness my first birth. I knew in that moment that being a Midwife was my calling.
I learned the art of midwifery through apprenticing under Vicki Cain, a longtime home birth midwife who is legacy to hundreds and hundreds of families. I am so blessed to continue to work closely with Vicki as she is my backup midwife and I am her backup midwife.
In 2013 I became a Licensed Midwife in the State of Montana. I worked at the Bozeman Birth Center as a Primary Midwife for over 3 years. There I cared for hundreds of women and babies. During my time at the Birth Center, I continued to offer home birth for families, independently. I never lost my deep honor, respect and calling for home birth. There is nothing like birthing a baby at home.
In December 2016 I started my own private practice, exclusively offering home birth for Montana families. It has been so wonderful to be able to provide care to women, be by their side to birth and care for them and their babies from the start, right up until our last appointment together, which is always bittersweet. I am so lucky to still be in touch with many of the families I have assisted, I see children I have “caught” when I am out and about all the time. It is such a privilege to be included in these significant times in peoples’ lives.
